At Facebook! Come join us over at the new Micronations and Alternative Polities group ! Barely two weeks in and we've got a hotbed of micronational and political discussion underway involving well over 200 active members from right across the micronational spectrum - and also including academics, journalists, film-makers and authors. :-)

haha its almost a case of last person turn out the lights The only issue has been that some of the Micronationalists who don't use Facebook haven't come over.

I'll continue to maintain this forum, of course; if nothing else it's an invaluable historical resource... but the main game does seem to have shifted fairly decisively to Facebook.

That is true, but I suspect many forums have been dying for a while as the move to more social networking sites continues.

Sorry all. I have some urgent family issues to deal with for a while. I'll be back very soon.

I quit the Facebook group because I found its frequent update notifications annoying. IMO, these notifications should be reserved for Facebook interactions amongst friends. If there is a way to switch that "feature" off, I may reconsider this decision.

Why don't you just hide the sidebar?

You can alter the notification settings, if you look at the list of groups on the left hand side after you login, when you hover your mouse over the group a small picture of a pencil should appear, click the pencil, then select edit settings, you can change your notification settings there.

Heyla to all ---
I'm sorry this group is dying; as a blind person, FB is difficult for me.It takes all day for me to go through the messages, and FB is always trying to get me into Apps and Games.
I use FB slowly, and every weekend, I have to use a sighted person to hack through old posts.
So: have fun, you guys! I'll keep visiting, and go to FB every once in a while.......

I'm for staying here, too. Presently this Facebook group thing is bombing me with chat messages and I'm all like FUCK THIS.

I quit this again. Like hundreds of chat messages running in in no time... I like to use Facebook for chats with (relatively) close friends, and not as a Spam-O-mat.

Yes the chat thing is annoying as hell, even though I wasn't looking at the Micronational facebook page, I was getting the chat poping up with chat from that page. I will be shutting down notifications and returning to the forums.

If you don't like Facebook Chat it's no big deal to simply switch it off. Mine is permanently off.

Can it be switched off selectively? As I said, I like to chat with friends occasionally, but I don't like to be pestered by random and excessive group chats.

I believe you can, by allowing only "close friends" to see you as being available for chat.

I am a member of the FB group but the sheer volume of contributors makes it a cacophony of whittering, misunderstanding and petty arguments. I logged on last night and seen a big debate on the morality of sodomy and homosexuality, being 'banned' in some micronations.
Personally I see the likes of twitter and FB as the demise of sensible debate, as we are limited to a number of characters in order to make brief points, something that can manufacture further misunderstanding. On the up side there are a huge number of people to 'network' with on the FB group, and i intend to stir up some debate myself in my contrary irish/podjistan way.
lots of love.

I tend to agree with you.
Forums are good places in which to conduct reasoned debate at a sedate pace, while social media sites are good places to network and engage in quick-fire discussions and commentary with large numbers of people.
Also, we should bear in mind that the FB grop has lots of younger people as members, and their thought processes and communications skills are often still in the process of refinement.
I think that both groups nonetheless serve useful purposes.

I've decided to stick on the FB group for the time being to see what happens, but I have noticed issues starting to show themselves.
