Just imagine: what if ---
Someone with lots of $$$ put together a “tourist trap” kind of micronation, something between Disneyland & Seborga (both of them “kingdoms” of sorts). Then people might be introduced to micronationalism in a way that wouldn’t scare the “straights.” You could go there and:
1) Meet the “Chief Executive” (King/President), and if a Kingdom/Principality, you could get Knighted or become Lord/lady of your “own land” (a test tube or box full of “native soil (with a certificate)”
2) Go to a souvenir shop” (with branded merchandise): shirts, caps, posters, kewpie dolls & plush animals, recipie books, etc.;
3) Visit a “micro-zoo” and sit in the “micro-park,” and maybe (on weekends) hear a small symphony;
4) Get the tour, including the “national” hotel, and receive a towell or blanket etc.;
5) Go to the “Micro-Palace” and Congress/Parliament, and even bring along a law or proposal to pass.
6) While in the “Palace,” get your own “passport,” with a place to put your own photograph, and get it stamped by a “micro-staffer.”
The “passport should say all over it that it’s a novelty souvenir, the picture could be put into a clear plastic pocket, the tourist then becomes a “micro-native,” and we then stamp the Micro-Visa stamp on it in the back.
There’s a place called “Medieval Times,” and the décor should be like that, and it should be obvious that it’s all tongue firmly in cheek.
The one difference between this and Molossia would be a place to stay (overnight, up to one week), with almost everything for sale (we’re a poor kingdom in need of operating funds, we could say) --- we’re so small!).
I could get 10-20 acres (minimum), put in a small park, a small motel (with souvenir shop & small diner), surround that with a small park & petting zoo, and then a parking lot & the “micro-Palace with attendant “Prince,” etc.
How much to set up? How much to operate a year? If we wanted to, should we include the following “souvenirs?” coins, English to (language) phrase book (then “natives” could speak English haltingly, of course) And, finally: how much could we charge for this “quality experience?”Compare this to Disneyland, or Medieval Times, or Universal Studios ---
Before any comments get back to me, let me point out that this is NOT a substitute for a “real nation,” just a way to earn the money doing “what we love,” and nothing else.
So how much is cheap desert land “out there?” Does anybody know? Isn’t it an interesting idea? Explore, expand, theorize (hopefully at least a little seriously)….
If possible, show me a budget (or a link to your figures), make me a map (I’ll have my lifemate describe it to me), or even make illustrations!)Pretend that a small consortium of investors are interested… make it like a business proposal (point out the popularity of Atlantium, Hutt River, Molossia, Lovely & Seborga. And we could play a little?
