The Kingdom of Edan... which I believe was founded by people who were originally involved in the Republic of Lomar... kingdomofedan.blogspot.com/As far as I can determine Edan remains a largely theoretical exercise promoting Catholic monarchism.

...which reminds me of another US-based pro-monarchist micronation, the name of which currently escapes me.
It was run by a slightly odd fellow whose first name I think was David. He went a bit further than Edan by declaring himself the king-in-waiting of the United States.
Sorta like Emperor Norton, but wackier.
King David died several years ago (evidently at a relatively young age), but his website was maintained by his family as a memorial - at least it was when I last stumbled across it. Now I can't find it at all.
Can anyone recall any further details of this project?

...further Googling reveals another self-appointed putative US king... King McDonald, of the American Monarchy Party, which based on several of its policies, may well be a hoax... or possibly the ravings of a madman: In King MacDonald’s first year in office, all automobiles, stainless steel and vaccines shall be banned, under pain of death. The military shall be dissolved and Knights will be put in its place to hold the peace of the realm. Heyla, Only 1 silly question: if stainless steel is banned, then what sort of material will a Knight's sword be made of? Only asking....

Greetings: We are aware of Edan's progress towards future sovereignty; Edan and TorHavn were once allies & friends. In point of fact, We still consider them friendly and collegues... We shall watch as things proceed. Thank you, George, for the update.... We had lost track of their web presence recently, but periodically have received email from His Majesty.

Of greater concern is how these "knights" would get around without mechanised transport. If I recall correctly, the last time this was tried was when the Polish mounted cavalry charged Hitler's Panzers at the start of WW2. And we all know how that turned out.

Poland and Estonia maintained governments in exile for half a century. The Polish Government-in-Exile never renounced its claim to legitimacy, arguing the Communist regime was illegal. They only dissolved themselves when Lech Walesa was elected in 1990. Similarly, the Estonian Government-in-Exile conferred its legitimacy on the post-Soviet government of Estonia in 1992, but militants refused to accept this and maintain a rival government.

There are actually quite a few governments-in-exile still kicking around, including those of South Vietnam, Burma, Ethiopia, Laos and Iran. The most successful is undoubtedly the government of the Republic of China (aka Taiwan). More info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_in_exile

I'd argue the ROC is not a Govt in Exile, in that it actually controls territory, and isn't based in a cheap rented flat in 1940s London! They're pretty essential criteria!

Chiang Kai-Shek probably owned a few dozen cheap London flats in the 1940s and beyond.
Madame Chiang certainly did own swathes of property in the US.

The SMOM can claim to be such, since it ruled Malta between 1530 and 1798, and did much to shape the Maltese nation into what it is today.
However, it no longer claims territory, and has diplomatic relations with the Republic of Malta.

Yes, we were originally involved with the Republic of Lomar (before that went upside-down) and we are currently moving from theory to growth. And we see Catholic monarchism as more of an outgrowth of Distributist ideas than anything else.
TorHavn, always good to see you.

Heyla,
Just wondering.... anything new on this (or these) front(s)? With the possibility of recurring press interest, it would be good to revisit "lost" projects.

Hope this clears things up for us poor "uninformed."

Monarchism in the United States of America is a case of: "want what you don't have." I say: "careful what you wish for.." Monarchist do make the point a King or Queen can be less expensive than a President.
I do think a King or Queen can be a unifying figure. For the most part the American Revolutionary War of Independence was not anti-Monarchist. Yes, there were slogans such as: "no King but Christ."
Washington was reportedly offered a crown. Personally, I've never been a big fan of Monarchism. Mainly, because of the lack of legitimacy in upstart Monarchies. The flip side is: Monarchies have to start somewhere. As do upstart Republics.

There certainly was a proposal to install George Washington as elected king of the United States, ad vitam, at one point.
Atlantium's "republican monarchy" is based on an almost identical principle.

George, It's interesting to see a current example of the same (sort of) type of "monarchy" that Lykosha uses (with an add-on of the Althing to it. Thanks, George!
