If nothing else it would be a great way to make money with very little physical real estate.
I'm surprised Sealand hasn't already attempted something like this.

Yes, Sealand has a tremendous advantage as they already have a structure. The cost of building one from scratch would probably necessitate fees the average micronationalist does not have.
I wonder how many mailboxes Nauru could build in their interior wasteland...

The question is which postal service would be capable / willing to deliver things to Sealand (as you need a helicopter to land there). I guess UPS would give up as soon as they realised there are no neighbours nearby to take a delivery when nobody is at home.

The "Principality of Sealand" does not permit or prohibit the creation of business entities. Sealand lacks statutory corporate law and a judicial system.
Even if Sealand met those requirements it still suffers from the Somaliland syndrome. Without formal diplomatic recognition a Sealand domiciled corporation could face difficulties when trading outside of Sealand. This could mean being unable to open up a bank or brokerage account.
Even if a bank accepted a Sealand "certificate of incorporation" to establish an account. It would likely be an unscrupulous banking company. (This assumes any bank has scruples but that is another story for another time)
Let's suppose "Barclay's" or "HSBC" decided to do business with Sealand corporations. There are still even more problems. For example U.S. citizens are taxed on all worldwide income.
Then what about the European Union or the People's Republic of China? The answer is: it could work. But still a Sealand corporation would need to apply for authority to conduct business in countries where it would engage in commerce.
A Sealand corporation wouldn't necessarily be able to set up a newspaper in France or a hotel in Germany. Local rules and laws would still very much apply. A Sealand corporation could own shares of the German hotel. This could provide privacy protection for the owners. But it would unlikely save the shareholders any taxes.
The so called "offshore world" is very murky. There are shark infest waters. Always proceed with caution and be very careful. Some of the only legitimate benefits of going offshore are:
1.) Tax minimization (not tax evasion)
2.) Privacy
3.) To retain ownership in assets that provide passive income (artistic royalties, stock dividends, etc)
I would strongly urge any new nation project to study the offshore sector carefully. I would also solicit the counsel of different lawyers in various jurisdictions. Do understand, you will invariably have bad press and scandals.

Well stop piss farting around in front of a keyboard and get building, the streets are bloodywell littered with old plastic bottles. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cvn9l1pJ3-AAlthough I wouldn't fancy your prospects in the face of anything resembling a wave.

Anything resembling a wave indeed. Forget about getting outside the EEZ or even territorial waters. Those old plastic bottles collected from land would be nicely dispersed over the sea in no time.

Awesome!! This guy has already gone further than most micronationalists can even dream of, and the fact even the Mexican government wants to turn his island into a special part of Mexico is incredible! I wish: - he had a laptop and some Internet connection with the rest of the world, but that is probably not the case;
- he had somehow managed to attract even some attractive woman to his island of junk paradise, and that would have been the cherry on top of an already great cake!
This may be the solution to our ocean garbage patch problem, if taken to a higher level than the legal one we have already adopted!
