As someone who was degree trained (maaaaaany years ago) as a designer, I generally find signatures that are two or three times the size of the message really annoying; they tend to detract from the message they're attached to, rather than emphasise it.
What do others think?
Should signatures be limited to plain text, bold, italics, underline, strikethrough, text alignment, and colors... or should people be permitted to fill their signatures with garish animations in mind bending colours that cover half the screen if they so desire?
...and please note that this has nothing to do with people's choice of avatar (those little pictures that appear below your name in the top left-hand corner of each message you post). You can continue to choose anything you like for those - so long as it's no larger than 100 x 100 pixels in size.

Greetings George !!
I see your points; however, a person's signature, and the manner in which he or she so chooses to present it, should be left up to the individual; as one's signature is one's own property in a manner of speaking; and as such, the individual's reflection and expression should not be of any real consequence. ( should not be an issue of/for another's likes or dislikes / ? )
Just my 2-Cent$ worth.
Highest Regards !! _______________

I don't disagree.
My point is that freedom and practicality need to be finely balanced.
You can call me old and cranky, you can call me late for dinner - and you can even call me Mary (although I'd rather you didn't, as I'm likely to get confused) - but speaking personally, I rarely bother reading forum messages with headache-inducing signatures.
Sometimes understating things is best.

Maybe there could be some sort of rule saying that sigs should be no larger than X by X. Do the mods/admins have the power to remove excessive sigs or not?
(Yes, I finally got tired of the ceaseless bitching over at MNeu)

Moderators have the power to change anything, anytime, anyhow - but, except in extreme circumstances, that's not the way we do things around here.
This particular issue doesn't exactly seem to be tapping into a groundswell of dissatisfaction, so I'm happy to continue without a formal policy for the time being.
As for the bitching elsewhere... let's leave it there, where it belongs; those involved are currently reaping what they have sown - which just goes to show that what goes around does inevitably come around.
