As some of you may have noticed, the past year has seen a quickening of the pace of development at the Empire of Atlantium's global capital in rural southeastern New South Wales. After three years' effort, Phase 1 reconstruction, extension and landscaping works on the Domus Aurea / Golden House (Government House) compound (including the first phase of the Imperial Botanical Gardens) are now rapidly drawing to a conclusion - and the Phase 2 construction of various commemorative monuments and structures elsewhere in the Province - such as the House of Contemplation, and Foundation Monument - are now well underway. In the very near future we will commence construction of a full-scale Triumphal Arch (signifying the Triumph of Knowledge over Ignorance), designed as a simplified variant of the Roman model, and surmounted by a Winged Victory; we believe this will be the first such structure to ever be attempted in Australia. We have decided to use the official Empire of Atlantium Facebook Group as the means to give the general public ongoing insight into all of of these exciting developments - and that includes people who are not registered FB users. Anyone who wishes to review photographs documenting our activities is invited to visit the following URL: www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=136077689262

I've just uploaded some pictures of the Imperial Botanical Garden to Facebook. For those who are not FB members, here's a pic of part of the project: www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=514894&l=1e9c1024bb&id=100000248620768The area immediately beyond the uncompleted garden bed, near my car, is the site where Atlantium's triumphal arch will be built. The flat open area visible in the picture is the easternmost extremity of Founders Square, and is located right in the centre of Concordia.

Back in May of this year I was contacted by a professional bagpipe player - formerly of the UK, now residing in South Africa - who wanted to be named as official piper to Atlantium. The guy in question is in fact one of the world's foremost bagpipe players, having performed solo at the Edinburgh Tatoo, the funeral of Princess Diana, state banqets at Buckingham Palace and as Regimental Piper to Britain's SAS - amongst others. As one who bears a Scottish surname and heritage, I was happy to oblige this gentleman's request, and Mr McGowan is now officially my personal piper, by appointment: www.piperjames.co.za/

Awesome stuff, George! Hopefully the UMMOA will also get similar opportunities in the near future.

Atlantium's senior diplomatic representative in South America recently had the opportunity to meet newly-inaugurated Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff: www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000248620768#!/photo.php?fbid=197540206930932&set=o.136077689262&theater

Impressive! Did President Rousseff have any views on recognising Atlantium?

I'm pleased to announce that a new German-language tourist guidebook will include an entry on Atlantium. "Das Australien-Lesebuch" by Barbara Barkhausen, is a 400-page guide to "everything you need to know about Down Under". It is due for release in March 2011. Were they that it's likely to happen, or the opposite?

If by "recognition" you mean the establishment of a formal bilateral relationship between two legal persons in international law involving the exchange of ambassadors, you've completely missed the point.
That is absolutely not Atlantium's end game.
Aside from which, a lack of positive third party coverage is not a problem we've ever had to confront.

Aside from which, a lack of positive third party coverage is not a problem we've ever had to confront. I never said you had faced any problems. In fact, Atlantium's probably the most-covered micronation in the (at least Australian) media. But I'm sure you wouldn't turn any more down

That depends. I'd probably draw the line at any Murdoch-owned British tabloid.
Particularly if they wanted to photograph me in a chariot drawn by a pair of topless page three models.
Then again...

Yeah, that would be a bit of a dilemma. Not a bad one though...

I'm delighted to advise that the Empire of Atlantium has been issued with an official invitation to participate in the upcoming National Multicultural Festival, in the Australian capital, Canberra. The Festival is supported by the government of the Australian Capital Territory, and is a major event celebrating cultural diversity in Australia. Atlantium has been invited to exhibit our stamps, coins, banknotes, regalia, flags and information brochures in a dedicated stall, as part of the February 2012 event. Further information here: www.multiculturalfestival.com.au/

CORRECTION:
The interest in Atlantium's participation in the abovementioned event did not originate with the festival organisers themselves, but with an unrelated group of young Australians (who are not citizens of Atlantium), who are nonetheless interested in promoting Atlantium to the wider community.
In the past few days they have been given in-principle support by the festival organising committee for an Atlantium stall at the 2012 event, and invited to submit a formal application by the October 2011 deadline.
Stand by for further updates.

250,001 festival attendees is definitely better than 250,000 :-)

If a thing's worth doing, it's worth doing well.
Hopefully this will be reflected in our sales figures :-)
