To all nations, TorHavn sends greetings:
When I joined micronationalism:
I belonged to E-Groups, which became Yahoo! Groups, and:
There weren’t any “social networks,” and:
New “National Projects” came and went, in the manner of the stamps and coins they made, and:
The League of Secessionist States had already been in existence for nearly twenty years.
The year was 1999, and two individuals were sick and tired of the turn of events in their own residence countries, and wanted things to be “different.” With all the seriousness and excitement that went far beyond what inspired the making of a new company, these budding young “other-nationalists” decided to change the world. At 1800 hours, August 3, 1999, I. Kasimir Hunter and Amber Jorgensen reached beyond their mundane lives and became something more. Desiring to recreate something noble, ecological & sustainable (back then, the latter word wasn’t in vogue) --- a merging of warriorship & “green living” (tor = warrior/castle and havn = sanctuary).
We decided to keep our mundane selves separate from the tenure of our “royal” lives; we decided to make ourselves part of a very old concept of “Servant-Kings,” deciding always to treat others with chivalry, courtesy and diplomacy. No matter how we felt personally, our reactions to others – no matter how juvenile & venomous their actions and words, would be those of “courtesie and diplomacie.”
These policies have always served TorHavn well; despite the periodic difficulties, TorHavn has stood strong as an example of formality, diplomacy and honor, as well as a bastion of and a strong voice against the eco-terrorism waged by other nations both large and small. To that end, we’ve always made our positions clear: we’re “green,” warrior-strong and quite serious about one day standing amongst other equally small but strong National Projects.
Despite our lack of financial support, TorHavn is looking ahead of ourselves; we’re still just as serious as we were when this roller coaster ride began… it’s what drives us onward. Today,12 years later, I’m still serious. It’s still important, and I don’t need to be “King” to make it happen. So long as the ideals of the Viridian Realm stand strong, I could swear fealty to another Monarch, serve him faithfully, and bear the name of the lowliest thrall ---- so long as what we do changes the world for the better.
