What's your micronation's foreign policy? What does it try to achieve, and how? I've been drafting a more formal foreign policy for the Republic of Lavalon (draft here), and I'm always keen to see how other micronations approach the issue.

What's your micronation's foreign policy? What does it try to achieve, and how? I've been drafting a more formal foreign policy for the Republic of Lavalon (draft here), and I'm always keen to see how other micronations approach the issue. With regards to "micro" nations: we extend an open-hand to any and all "serious" MicroGovts and MicrOrganizations; and have signed several treatings and agreements with many MicroGovts over the years. With regards to the actions of "macro" nations: we attempt to remain neutral to the best of our abilities; however, we have on many occassions, voiced our objections to the most arrogant and ignorant actions taken by some "macro" governments; which include voicing opposition against the bush & cheney "profit-in-the-pockets" war.... Iraq !!These objections were expressed via "snail-mail" and e-mails, and even a recorded phone message or two too; which might just help to explain why we are / were on "Uncle $am's" ( a.k.a. / d.b.a. "BIG Brother" ) "B-List" for X-mas cards. ;D We have also communicated with the Russian Embassy in Washington, D.C., USA; which occured after Russian forces invaded Georgia. ( we're now on Russian radar too...a very small "blimp" / like a gnat or an ant on an elephant's a$$ ) We also express thanks and gratitude to the US govt from time-to-time as well; which occurs via e-mails and recorded phone messages; with the most recent "snail mail" communique being more of a formality, with an Official Invitation to the Obamas, to celebrate mine and my Lady's upcoming 40th Wedding Anniversary Celebration. ( not expecting the Obama's to be present, or send a gift ) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Atlantium views itself as a responsible global citizen, and welcomes co-operative activity with legitimate sovereign states, ngo's and supra-national bodies.
Whilst we have no formal bilateral ties with any sovereign state, a number of our representatives have succeeded in engaging directly on our behalf with heads of state and government in various countries. Brazil and India are of particular note in this respect.
As a general rule, members and observers at the UN (and a few others outside the UN) are granted tacit unilateral acknowledgement. This policy also extends to a limited number of aspirant peoples and states, with whom the Ministry of State has pursued a number of low-level interactions.
We do not engage in formal relations with micronations or similar unrecognised state-like entities because our formal position is that we are not one. We do however maintain informal intermittent contact with representatives from Hutt River Principality and Sealand, when our interests converge - which is not often.

Claudio,
I was inspired to take a more in depth approach to our foreign policy after ready the veritable treatise put together by your chancellery!
All,
If anyone has any thoughts or feedback on the Republic's proposed foreign policy, I'd be keen to hear it.

These are my thoughts about the policies after they have been refined with the suggestions by HE Bo Register of the Dominion of British West Florida: - A micronation is not simply a person or family that behaves like a nation. I have discovered that a micronation must be at least a tribe or community in order to fit the scientific definition of micronation.
- You should not recognise any nation or micronation unilaterally, or in a meaningless fashion, even if just in a de facto manner. The MPR, for example, does recognise several nations, micronations, and international organisations in a de facto manner, but all of these are recognised because we have relations with professionals or people from these nations, and yet Vietnam, a de jure state, which was recognised in the past, is no longer recognised for these reasons: HOCA ceases to serve Vietnam. This means that we don't have to accept a diploma or degree earned in Vietnam, unless we have superior evidence about the person's education or qualification. This means we also don't have to recognise a diploma or degree issued from Myanmar, with which Independent Long Island is still at war.
- A nation's right to exist under the Montevideo Convention, does not oblige any state to recognise any nation or micronation which defines itself as such. It only implies that the nation/micronation has rights, and cannot be blocked from exercising those rights.

Brazil and India are of particular note in this respect. Could you please explain the Brazilian connection? Have you meant actual formal communication with President Lula? By the way, Mr. Yuri Ghenov is also a Pasargadan citizen since 2001. From time to time, he gives us notes on Atlantium events. Yours sincerely.

Count Lamartine de Hollanda OA has been Atlantium's senior representative in Latin America (and indeed our most active diplomatic representative), for nearly a decade. Count de Hollanda can be described as an eminent medical academic, diplomat and member of the Brazilian establishment - and I mean that in every sense of the word. Among other things he has served as Brazilian consul for various countries, including Albania, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua; he is currently the president of the official South American "industry association" of consuls and consuls-general. At various times Count de Hollanda has made direct face-to-face representations on behalf of Atlantium to President Lula of Brazil, former Vice President Maciel, President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, the immediate former president of the Dominican Republic, and numerous other eminent figures from the Brazilian, Argentinian and Chilean political, academic, diplomatic and judicial establishments. De Hollanda Dam in the province of Aurora was named in recognition of Count de Hollanda's record of achievement on behalf of Atlantium. Count de Hollanda's biography can be found here: www.atlantium.org/biographies.htmlFurther details about some of Count de Hollanda's activities on behalf of Atlantium can be found at the following links: www.atlantium.org/news.htmlwww.atlantium.org/news_10524.htmlwww.atlantium.org/news_10523.htmlwww.atlantium.org/news_10522.htmlCount de Hollanda and the Imperial Legation to Brazil may be contacted at: brazil@atlantium.org
